Uniformizable and Realcompact Bornological Universes

Bornological universes were introduced by Hu in [11] and obtained renewed interest in recent articles on convergence in hyperspaces and function spaces and optimization theory. In [11] and [12] Hu gives a necessary and sufficient condition for which a bornological universe is metrizable. In this article we will give a characterization of uniformizable bornological universes. Furthermore, a cons...

Cores of Alexandroff Spaces

Following Kukie la, we show how to generalize some results from May’s book [4] concerning cores of finite spaces to cores of Alexandroff spaces. It turns out that finite space methods can be extended under certain local finiteness assumptions; in particular, every bounded-paths space or countable finite-paths space has a core, and two bounded-paths spaces or countable finite-paths spaces are ho...

Quotients of Strongly Realcompact Groups

A topological group is strongly realcompact if it is topologically isomorphic to a closed subgroup of a product of separable metrizable groups. We show that if H is an invariant Čech-complete subgroup of an ω-narrow topological group G, then G is strongly realcompact if and only if G/H is strongly realcompact. Our proof of this result is based on a thorough study of the interaction between the ...

An Alexandroff Topology on Graphs

Let G = (V,E) be a locally finite graph, i.e. a graph in which every vertex has finitely many adjacent vertices. In this paper, we associate a topology to G, called graphic topology of G and we show that it is an Alexandroff topology, i.e. a topology in which intersection of each family of open sets is open. Then we investigate some properties of this topology. Our motivation is to give an elem...

Maximal Realcompact Spaces and Measurable Cardinals

Comfort and Hager investigate the notion of a maximal realcompact space and ask about the relationship to the first measurable cardinal m. A space is said to be a P (m) space if the intersection of fewer than m open sets is again open. They ask if each realcompact P (m) space is maximal realcompact. We establish that this question is undecidable.
